Track 02 · Water treatment
UV: ultraviolet
Chemical-free disinfection, TOC reduction, and advanced oxidation in combination.
Equipment range: 55-10,000 W
How it works
UV-C light damages DNA and RNA so microorganisms cannot reproduce. Shorter wavelengths create oxidizing radicals that reduce TOC in ultrapure water.
Combined with ozone, TiO₂ or Fenton chemistry, UV becomes part of an advanced oxidation process.
When to use it
- You need disinfection without adding chemicals to the water.
- Drinking water, livestock supply, and pure water loops.
- TOC reduction in ultrapure water systems.
Common mistakes
- Selecting on lamp power or catalog flow without knowing the UV transmittance of the water.
- Dirty quartz sleeves, or lamps past their service life that still glow.
- Turbidity and solids shielding bacteria from the light.
- Forgetting that UV leaves no disinfectant residual in the pipework.
- Applying oxidation results from another study without testing the real water.
